Rug PadYou’ve shopped carefully and finally found the perfect rug for your home. You paid for it and arranged for delivery. But that’s not the end of the story.
Don’t forget to buy rug pads. They’ll extend the life of your purchase and make it more comfortable to walk on.
A rug pad will properly position your new purchase on the floor. It protects the underside of the rug from rubbing against the floor. (The pad protects the floor, too.) A pad will provide extra ventilation to the rug, protecting it from moisture and rot. In addition, a pad adds more cushion to the rug, making it more comfortable for anyone walking on it. Finally, rug pads provide thermal insulation and reduce noise.
Of course, a rug pad is not for show and won’t invite any praise from visitors. It quietly and invisibly serves your rug and lengthens its life. Remember, rugs tend to deteriorate from the bottom up. A rug pad is the best way to stop problems before they get out of control.

Even though it will be hidden from view, it’s important to choose the right pad. Besides how it feels to your feet, you should find out which type of pad is the best fit for your particular rug. Consult with your salesperson.
There are many different kinds of rug pads available. Most are made of fibers, felt, jute, natural rubber or urethane. They vary in thickness, density and weave. You’ll need to consider all this when deciding on which pad to buy. Don’t hesitate to ask questions about rug pads when you’re shopping for rugs. Your salesperson is likely to be the most informed about which pads work best for each rug.

If you’ve already bought your rug, it’s not too late to get a pad. Return to the store and ask a salesperson for the best fit for what you’ve got. It’s never too late to start using one – your feet and your floor will be grateful!
Rug pads may seem like an unnecessary extra purchase, but they’re not. A little investment upfront will pay off in the long run as the life of your rug is extended.
